Charasu comes from the Japanese word はらす (ha-ra-su) which means to cleanse, or to refresh oneself. The most important ingredient in all of our products is charcoal. Roughly translated from a melding of languages and culture, Charasu can be defined as cleansing oneself with charcoal.
The process by which our activated charcoal is made begins with carefully selected white oak branches that are burned at extremely high temperatures for several days before being rapidly cooled. The result of this time consuming process is an activated charcoal unparalleled in purity and function.
The exceptionally fine grit of activated charcoal facilitates the gentle removal of dead skin cells without scratching or damaging the healthy cells below. Hair follicles also benefit from exfoliation as dirt and oils from daily exposure are broken down and rinsed away.
Adsorption is the process in which dirt and excess oils are broken down and drawn to the surface of activated charcoal particles. The thorough removal of dirt and oils provides a clean slate, facilitating the delivery of nourishing ingredients to all areas of the hair and skin.
One tablespoon of charcoal has the surface area of six olympic swimming pools, making it the ideal vessel for delivery of beneficial nutrients and antioxidants. Suspending activated charcoal in our formulations provides the optimal conditions for which skin and hair will benefit from thoughtfully balanced ingredients.
